Sunday marked a big day in the iPhone homebrew world because that was the day that the iPhone Dev Team released the highly anticipated Pwnage 2.0 Tool to jailbreak all flavors of iPhone and iPod and unlock the first-generation 2.5G iPhone to boot. Unfortunately, a majority of users were disappointed by the fact that the tool was for Mac only, leaving all Windows users in the dark. Well not any longer. We’ve upgraded our own first-gen iPhones to v2.0 firmware, fully unlocked, jailbroken, and awesome and everything was done on Windows. The method is actually quite painless and is only made possible by having available a custom-built albeit vanilla v2.0 firmware created with none other by Pwnage 2.0 on a Mac (so Windows fanboys have to show some love). With the custom IPSW, Windows users can easily upgrade to v2.0 firmware as well as their Macbook-wielding counterparts by fulfilling just a few requirements. Without much further ado, we give you the tutorial on how to install the iPhone 2.0 update through Windows, fully jailbroken and possibly unlocked: Read more »

While browsing any web page with images on Safari on your iPhone, if you’ve installed 2.0 firmware you now have the ability to save any picture you see to your iPhone’s memory. To save an image, simply tap and hold on the picture to save it to your iPhone. Try hitting up your peep’s MySpace or Facebook pages and assign their pictures to your contact information in your phone book. Plus this way they can’t complain they don’t like the picture you’ve got of them when they call, after all they chose it. Like a picture you’re seeing? Save it and use it later as a background. Shopping online? Save pictures of all the things you are considering buying so you won’t forget them later. The possibilities are endless.

Regardless of what generation iPhone you have, as long as you’ve got 2.0 firmware, you get a nifty new natively supported way to take screenshots without relying on any third party installer apps. (Capture anyone?) To take screenshots after installing the 2.0 update, simply hold down the Home button and then press the Power button and the screen will flash and a screenshot of that will end up in Camera Roll.

As promised, we told you that when the iPhone Dev Team releases the Pwnage 2.0 Tool, we’d let you know about it. Their site is pretty slow right now with everyone downloading the tool like mad so count yourself lucky that you’re here on Code Retard right here right now because we’re providing for you lucky bastards. Sorry all Windows users, but right now it’s only for Mac users. There is a workaround regarding a Pwnage 2.0 created IPSW though. Read more »

/* Filed under Apple, iPhone */

And if you happen to have the old school 2.5G first-gen iPhone, you’re in luck because the iPhone Dev Team, makers of the popular Pwnage Tool for unlocking and jailbreaking iPhones, have just declared that Pwnage 2.0 will also be able to unlock iPhones with v2.0 firmware installed. Again, the release date for Pwnage is still fuzzy and so is the process. When we hear about it, you’ll hear about it. Read more »
