Wii System Menu 4.0 Update Breaks Twilight Hack, Homebrew Channel Survives

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
If you’ve been thinking of updating to Wii System Menu 4.0 you may want to hold off. Despite the greatest improvement offered by the 4.0 update – a storage solution for Virtual Console and WiiWare games (up to 32GB possible with SDHC) – it may come at a cost to some Wii gamers. If you’ve been relying on the famed Twilight hack to launch your own homebrew, it won’t work any longer as the exploit has finally been patched by Nintendo. Considering that homebrew gamers have been able to use the Twilight Princess hack for a solid year, it has definitely served its purpose for the homebrew community well even if it’s permanently gone.

And speaking of homebrew, if you have the Homebrew Channel already installed, the Wii system menu 4.0 update will actually still allow you to run homebrew via the channel so you can still run awesome hacks like the Wii hard drive hack. It won’t work if you try to install it after updating to 4.0, so if you must upgrade then do yourself a favor and install the Homebrew Channel before you update at the very least. Consider it your last farewell to the TP hack.

Don’t, if you format, you will stay on 4.0

      • Comment from Anonymous

Are you sure formatting a wii to factory settings wouldnt downgrade version from 4.0?

        • Comment from Anonymous

i did it and it stayed in 4.0.
pissed me off too cuz i lost all my wi-fi compatable game data. =(

you can still install homebrew on the 4.0 menu,if you have it installed already then update to 4.0,4.0 has an SD card channel allowing you too copy channels on to an SD card,so copy the homebrew channel and upload it,then others with 4.0 can just download the homebrew channel provided, put on SD card and move on too wii.But no one has uploaded yet so were out of luck til someone dose

this file works with version 4.0E?

      • Comment from gabe

It is pretty odd. My Wii detects the channel and it starts to load, however it will say, “This channel can not be launched on the Wii.”

I’m in the same sad and foolish boat. I got a new Wii and unfortunately let it update to 4.0 before installing Twilight hack. What can I do to install and run HB Chanel?

  • Comment from buddy

IM SORRY BUT WAT THE HELL IS NINTENDO’S PROBLEM!!! WHY WOULD THEY BLOCK THIS!!! AT THE VERY LEAST THE SHOULD BE HAPPY!! PEOPLE WOULD GET BORED QUICKER WITH THERE GAMES WITH NOTHING TO AND BUY MORE GAMES UGGHH!!!! F-ING R-TARDZ!!!

  • Comment from TBO2

The Twilight Hack and Homebrew made Wii more popular. People bought it to hack it! Nintendo is not stupid for doing this even though it helped them, but the copyright claims must be stopped otherwise Nintendo could be sued.

  • Comment from Amiga4ever

There is a hack for wii 4.0 call bannerbomb, I was able to install homebrew channel after few try and backup of my games into WBFS drive after downgrade from 4.0 to 3.3.

  • Comment from Finsterc

I installed the Homebrew Channel on my brand new Wii 4.0 using this site.
There are also alot of games to download, and even a way to hook up a USB drive on the site.

      Anywhere with a FREE answer..?

Anyway.. We COULD of course just wait and see.. Those at Homebrew Channel may just love these small challenges Nintendo is throwing at them..
I’d looked at this link another in this thread sent: http://www.yafaze.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=113&st=0&sk=t&sd=a

It looks like a answer, but I need to read some homework before jumpin’ out in this.. Half of this is not even in english! (“previously 4.0 virgin guide”?? My Wii is a GIRL?!) What about this: “WILL NOT WORK ON LU64+ SERIAL NUMBERED Wii’s”
Where is this freakin’ serial number?
And thats just the top of the cake!….

Well.. I want Homebrew channel.. But I don’t wanna mess up my Wii just because I updated it to this SD card thing.. I’ll keep in touch with you guys some more time!…

  • Comment from Anonymous

i took the plunge on the yafaze site and it worked like a charm. i dont know what cheapbutt means when he says half of this isnt in english. just follow the link people, its all in english and very easy to follow

    • Comment from DaMentalOne

Just tried this myself, and it works flawlessly! Hats off to them. After stupidly updating my system from Warioland, my chip would no longer work. This hack got around that problem in less than 5 mins! :D

    • Comment from CheapButt

.. What I meant was, that I wanna be sure what they want me to do, so I don’t mess up ;D
Nothing else… But if you guys can do it, then I should too! X3

      • Comment from CheapButt

        .. Okay… I only manage to get LoadMii open… Then it screws up… >_>
Something about an ERROR.. And freeze..

  • Comment from jason

Is there any way of downloading the hbc directly to the wii without a computer?

  • Comment from Anonymous

did that to psp but i had back up

  • Comment from Anonymous

sucks am at 5.51 bro did it

  • Comment from addy

to the people with wii 4.0E update, use bannerbomb hack (http://bannerbomb.qoid.us/) to install HBC.

if you have problems installing wad files via HBC, then download Fix4.0-NeXtRL.it.rar, from http://www.timashley.me/?q=node/6 and follow website instructions.

    worked for me.

Want something that is totally different from what your iPhone-toting mates have? We’re talking about the DIY Rock Dock iPhone charging dock, where the idea is so simple, we wondered how come nobody else has done something like this before. After all, it relies on an old school NES controller to form the dock itself, where it will retail for $34.99 and costs $10 to ship to the UK, although those who want a more “advanced” (relatively speaking, of course in the age of the Nintendo Wii currently) version, there is the N64 model that surprisingly costs cheaper at $25.99.
