Wii System Menu 4.0 Update Breaks Twilight Hack, Homebrew Channel Survives

If you’ve been thinking of updating to Wii System Menu 4.0 you may want to hold off. Despite the greatest improvement offered by the 4.0 update – a storage solution for Virtual Console and WiiWare games (up to 32GB possible with SDHC) – it may come at a cost to some Wii gamers. If you’ve been relying on the famed Twilight hack to launch your own homebrew, it won’t work any longer as the exploit has finally been patched by Nintendo. Considering that homebrew gamers have been able to use the Twilight Princess hack for a solid year, it has definitely served its purpose for the homebrew community well even if it’s permanently gone.
And speaking of homebrew, if you have the Homebrew Channel already installed, the Wii system menu 4.0 update will actually still allow you to run homebrew via the channel so you can still run awesome hacks like the Wii hard drive hack. It won’t work if you try to install it after updating to 4.0, so if you must upgrade then do yourself a favor and install the Homebrew Channel before you update at the very least. Consider it your last farewell to the TP hack.

Whaa! my brother update it to 4.0 and now i can’t install homebrew channel there gotta be something, but i could re format my wii and i won’t update it and then i can install homebrew channel.

Are you sure formatting a wii to factory settings wouldnt downgrade version from 4.0?
i did it and it stayed in 4.0.

you can still install homebrew on the 4.0 menu,if you have it installed already then update to 4.0,4.0 has an SD card channel allowing you too copy channels on to an SD card,so copy the homebrew channel and upload it,then others with 4.0 can just download the homebrew channel provided,put on SD card and move on too wii.But no one has uploaded yet so were out of luck til someone dose
that doesnt work.i tried to put a homebrew iso from sd to my wii with 4.0 on it. but nothing….any tips?

It is pretty odd. My Wii detects the channel and it starts to load, however it will say, “This channel can not be launched on the Wii.”

The Twilight Hack and Homebrew made Wii more popular. People bought it to hack it! Nintendo is not stupid for doing this even though it helped them, but the copyright claims must be stopped otherwise Nintendo could be sued.
There is a hack for wii 4.0 call bannerbomb, I was able to install homebrew channel after few try and backup of my games into WBFS drive after downgrade from 4.0 to 3.3.
I installed the Homebrew Channel on my brand new Wii 4.0 using this site.
There are also alot of games to download, and even a way to hook up a USB drive on the site.
Anywhere with a FREE answer..?
Anyway.. We COULD of course just wait and see.. Those at Homebrew Channel may just love these small challenges Nintendo is throwing at them..

i took the plunge on the yafaze site and it worked like a charm. i dont know what cheapbutt means when he says half of this isnt in english. just follow the link people, its all in english and very easy to follow
Just tried this myself, and it works flawlessly! Hats off to them. After stupidly updating my system from Warioland, my chip would no longer work. This hack got around that problem in less than 5 mins! :D

to the people with wii 4.0E update, use bannerbomb hack (http://bannerbomb.qoid.us/) to install HBC.
if you have problems installing wad files via HBC, then download Fix4.0-NeXtRL.it.rar, from http://www.timashley.me/?q=node/6 and follow website instructions.
