[ # ] How to Install Adobe Flash Plugin for Google Chrome
/* Posted October 22nd, 2008 at 10:40am *//* Filed under Google Chrome */
The Adobe Flash player plugin is widely used all over the Internet, so it’s almost crucial that you install the Flash plugin for Google Chrome if you wish to maximize your browser experience. If you’ve been prompted to install the Flash plugin but nothing happens, then you’ll need to manually install it yourself. The installation procedure is pretty straightforward.
- Download the Flash player xpi for Windows.
- Add a .zip extension to the file. It should now be: flashplayer-win.xpi.zip
- Extract the contents and copy two files “flashplayer.xpt” and “NPSWF32.dll” (indicated in the screenshot below) over to C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\Plugins in XP or C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\Plugins in Vista (thank you Derek), making sure to change ‘user’ to your Windows login name. You can avoid having to unhide hidden files in Windows Explorer simply by copying and pasting the directory path provided above into the path bar.
- Restart Google Chrome, then see if you can watch a YouTube video to see if it worked. Or just come back to this page.

Excellent! Worked perfect!
Nevertheless, I had to create manually the folder “Plugins” but after that and following your steps ONE BY ONE, it worked like a charm.
Thanks for your input and for sharing your knowledge.
Regards!

Hooray! This has been driving me crazy. I had to create a plugins folder, but then it worked. Not to be confused with the “Plugin Data” folder that’s buried under the User Data, in case anyone else chases that path. ;)

Thank you so much for the instructions. It worked and i didn’t have to reboot my computer. The search for this page drove me crazy. But once again thank you!

This does not help - although interestingly - when I went looking for the folder that I should have had on my system -
C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\Plugins
The “Plugins” folder did not exist. So I added a folder with that name to the applications folder and then added the downloaded files as instructed. But nothing changed.
I should note that my problem with the flash player and chrome is isolated to one web site - that of Bank of America and its application “Shopsafe” which allows you to get single use credit card numbers when shopping on the internet or elsewhere. I believe that the flashplayer works for every other application, but I am not sure how to test that - except I never get the error message except on that one site.
So - it may be that it is just the designers of this one web site have a code that Chrome has trouble with…..just a guess.

I think this may have changed (Or my experience was different because i changed my %ProgramFiles% to = D:\Program Files”)
I tried putting these 2 files in many folders such as:
C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application
C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\Plugins
C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Plugin Data
C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Plugin Data\Adobe Flash Movie
C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Plugin Data\Adobe Flash
C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Plugin Data\Flash
But finally I broke down and did what made sense to me and tried the one that worked:
%ProgramFiles%\Google\Chrome\Application\Plugins
I’m just going to make a self extracting rar file to remember this one. I can update the 2 files later. …hopefully by then I wont have to.

Hey can’t someone just make a batch file to do this? using ftp type commands
download the current flashplayer-win.xpi
rename it
..isin’t there a command to do something if a specified file exists..
xcopy to the correct directory based on the existence of the Applications folder.
Hmm i dono bout the exists command, i can’t find it. You can probably do this EZ in some other script language.
