crochet super mario amigurumi
If you’re a big gamer fan like we are you’ll definitely appreciate this: a custom made 110% accurately crocheted Super Mario amigurumi in the raccoon suit!! This is from the classic NES game Super Mario Bros 3 which pushed the limits on the gaming console’s graphics, playability, and fun factor. You know what happens when Mario touches the feather, he transforms into Raccoon Mario and is able to fly high into the sky, extending the gameplay beyond the ground and opening an entire new world of bonuses and hidden secrets. These factors all made Super Mario Bros 3 a truly awesome game, and this super-awesome crochet Super Mario is just as awesome. It’s so accurate down to the “M” on the cap and perfect proportions, it makes you wonder if this Mario doll simply popped out of your TV screen. No word on whether this will go on sale or not, but you can check out the creator’s website Cute Amigirumi for more video-game inspired crochet amigurumi creations and check out more Mario crochet pics while you’re at it. We also featured her R2D2 crochet and Waluigi on Code Retard previously.

Today we’re showcasing another fine piece of amigurumi craftsmanship (yeah we didn’t know what “amigurumi” was either until starwars.com told us): a Waluigi crochet plush! But today we stand better informed, thanks to the R2D2 artist herself, who had apparently heard of this term but had neglected to tell us when we showcased her R2D2 crochet plush toy last year. Shame on us, what kind of lousy geeks are we? So apparently amigurumi refers to the art of cutesy crochet craft of animals or characters. At any rate, this Super Mario Bros themed craft is another wonderfully cute amigurumi from the same craftswoman, who had help from the same person who cut out Artoo’s laser-precise felt detail.

r2d2 crochet artoo front star wars craft

Check out this lovable crochet R2D2 plush toy! This little fellow was a precious birthday gift, made all the more special because it took the efforts of two people to make it, one to crochet, and the other to cut, glue, and sew. Of course, it being R2D2, appealing to the Star Wars geek within also scores it massive points. Artoo stands at a noble 5 inches tall and sports an intricate and faithful reproduction of his markings from the Star Wars movies, including a glass bead eye as a nice finishing touch. Read more »

Don’t Mess with Elmo Guitar Hero

Just because you’re a two-year-old with an Elmo guitar doesn’t mean you can’t rock out on Guitar Hero with the big boys. Thanks to modder Nextonex’s efforts, his daughter will be able to do just that with her improved Elmo guitar which boasts playback compatibility with Guitar Hero on the PlayStation. The Elmo guitar had all the right ingredients: a strum bar, a whammy bar, and four neck buttons to make this awesome mod possible. With the innards of a PSOne controller (apparently this won’t work easily with a PS2 controller), some soldering skills and some elbow grease, Nextonex was able to convert a child’s toy into a lethal musical weapon. I’ll be keeping my eyes out for that lucky little girl to become a Guitar Hero legend one day.

Lego Creation Recreates Donkey Kong Arcade Game

Lego builder Dan Kressin built a charming Donkey Kong recreation completely out of Legos. The Lego set has be started up and contains a Mario, Princess, and of course Donkey Kong (who is actually a Lego troll). Unfortunately Mario doesn’t go anywhere but he can jump over barrels (most of the time). Dan built an ingenious some sort of system to re-cycle the barrels from top to bottom. If you’re interested, you can try to build it yourself or make some improvements and let us know about it.

McFarlane Toys will be making a line of 6-inch figures based on the wildly successful Guitar Hero video game. The four action figures, Johnny Napalm, Axel Steel, God of Rock, and Lars Ümlaut are actual characters in the game and trumpet the first wave of figures in a series to come. Each figure will have at least 15 opposable parts including a removable guitar. The retail price will vary from $10 to $15 depending on the character. MacFarlane is set to release the first Guitar Hero series figures in November to accompany the release of Guitar Hero World Tour.
