SharePoint 2010 Beta Install: Application Server Role: Web Server (IIS) Role

102708 1356 SharePoint11 SharePoint 2010 Beta Install: Application Server Role: Web Server (IIS) Role

I was trying to install SharePoint 2010 and what i found was that it was restarting over and over again. It restarted the server 8 times before i decided to look at the logs, it seems like it was having problems configuing the IIR Roles:

“Multiple Server restarts on Error with Configuring Application Server Role, Web Server”
and
“Application Server Role: Web Server (IIS) Role: configuration error – pending restart of the computer”

Solution:
It seems that you CANNOT have Visual Studio 2010 Beta 1 installed before you install SharePoint 2010. I rolled back to a previous VM where i did not install VS2k10 and then ran in prereq install and everything worked.

wolframalpha Wikipedia + Google = WolframAlpha

A new search engine by the creators of Mathematica – "long-term project to make all systematic knowledge immediately computable by anyone…enter your question or calculation, and Wolfram|Alpha uses its built-in algorithms and growing collection of data to compute the answer." Give it a try at www.wolframalpha.com.

It can pull up data on any country if you type it in, or look up complete stock price histories and comparisons, as well as perform complex mathematical computations. If you need more info on how to use it, be sure to check out the examples. You will find that Wolfram|Alpha is simply just loaded with tons of information you will probably never care about.

Download Ubuntu Pocket Reference Guide PDF Free

/* Posted January 28th, 2009 at 8:53am [Comments: 2] */
/* Filed under Linux, Reference */

ubuntu_quickref

For users who using Ubuntu Linux or are considering switching to this popular distro, this free pocket reference guide is available for download in PDF from the book’s website. While the print edition is available for $9.94 from Amazon, The Ubuntu Pocket Guide and Reference PDF is practically identical to the print edition except that it’s absolutely free. The book covers Ubuntu 8.04 LTS, 8.10 and beyond and doesn’t require the reader to have any Linux background. In fact, it’s particularly useful for Microsoft Windows users who are switching to Ubuntu. Linux gurus will still find it useful since it will save them from having to wade through tiresome documentation just to look up a few commands.

Restore Navigation Buttons after Firefox 3 Switch

/* Posted June 24th, 2008 at 8:59am [Comments: 1] */

firefox 3 logo

I upgraded to Firefox 3 today and after the switch I found out that I had lost my left and right navigation buttons. After floundering for a bit, I was able to restore them quite easily but at the expense of my current toolbar layout and settings.

If your problem isn’t as severe as mine, it might be as easy as right clicking on the toolbar and selecting “Customize…”

firefox toolbar customize

From there it’s as easy as dragging the left and right direction buttons back onto your toolbar. If that doesn’t work you could also try clicking on the “Restore Default Set” button boxed in red below. I must warn you that this will delete your layout and restore state it was at the very first day you ran Firefox.

In my case, neither method worked so I had to take a drastic measure. Read more »

Find Virtual Console and Wii Ware Block Sizes

Wii Main Menu with Virtual Console Wii Ware

If you’ve discovered how to install virtual console WAD file channels onto your Wii, then you’ve probably asked yourself at least once, “Do I have enough free blocks on my Wii to fit ___ game?” We already warned you that trying to install all VC games in existence would fill up your Wii memory pretty quickly so the trick is to pick and choose the games you want to play while maximizing your memory usage. Doing so would require knowing the block size requirements of each game. Well you are in luck, as this wiki has a constantly updated list of size requirements for all downloadable Wii content (that’s Virtual Console, Wii Ware and Wii Channels) sorted by region (NTSC-U, PAL, NTSC-J) and then by console platform. If you’d prefer just to see the US releases ordered by release date in blog format, head on over to KingBroly’s. Use it to look up any NTSC-U or PAL games you’re thinking of installing to find out if they will fit on the remaining memory on your Wii. Read more »

Emacs Keyword Syntax Highlighting for Verilog, Specman Elite

/* Posted April 28th, 2008 at 4:04pm [Comments: 1] */
/* Filed under Programming, Reference */

If you’re an avid Unix user you’ve probably used Emacs at one point or another. Ever wonder how sometimes when you open up a file (like .cpp) the editor is able to highlight and color all the right keywords pertaining to the programming language the file is coded in? The secret is in the .emacs file located in your home directory. I’ve worked with both Verilog and Specman Elite files before, and found the correct code to add in the .emacs file to enable the beautiful keyword syntax highlighting/coloring that makes the code much more readable. Whether you program in C++ or code in HTML, you’ve probably encountered a quick reference (”quickref” for short) at some point in your career. These handy guides aren’t meant to teach newbies how to use the language, but are more like the index at the back of your textbook except condensed and consolidated in a few pages.
