Working quickly to prepare for the worldwide release, Sony will this week release firmware 1.60 for their latest console, the PS Vita. This firmware will include some major additions to functionality, including a map application and the ability to record video, as shown below.

Firmware 1.60 is set to be released tomorrow, February 8th. Although the addition of functionality is always welcome, what we really want to know is if this firmware update addresses the Vita version of the HBL currently being developed. We’ll let you know as soon as we find out, so keep it here for the latest news from the PSV scene.

Mortal Kombat for PS Vita : More Details Revealed

/* Posted January 20th, 2012 at 3:32am [Comments: none]    */

<!–<!–<!–Share

We were waiting for more information on several Vita titles. Among them was Assasin’s Creed, Call of Duty and of course Mortal Kombat. At least one of them is now revealed and explained.

Being confirmed just 2 days ago, Sony today posted detailed interview on the subject. The interview confirms the cover above. Moreover it confirms that the game is port of 2011?s MK and therefore will include everything from PS3 version adding more exclusive content like Kratos. We were once again reassured the game will run at 60 fps and look graphically similar to Vita’s big brother. The game will use the touch screen and the accelerometer but unlike Ultimate Capcom vs Marvel 3 a simple touch won’t execute an instant hit. Instead it would be used only for fatalities and X-ray attacks. However, there are some unfortunate news too.  No cross-play will be available. Last but not least, the game will include both adhock and infrastructure multiplayer.

Mortal Kombat, as is the official name of the game,will land on our consoles sometime in the spring.

Wololo confirms the public release of HBL !!!

“We are aware that this hack will be easily patched by Sony, but we still plan to publicly release it some time soon after the US/EU release of the Vita (we still have to port HBL to the EU/US versions of the game but that shouldn’t have any difficulty).”

So we’ ll get a HBL sometime after the US/EU release but as expected it’s easy patchable.

Doom on PSV’s  HBL :

Doom on PSP’s HBL :

Note : Patching the HBL will be very easy task for Sony as all they need to do is to remove the game from PSN.

Note2 : PSV for some reason doesn’t run any PSP Demo so the exploit must be in full PSP game.

After the reveal of  the debug mode and the recovery menu you wouldn’t be surprised that has more functions . Today a Japanese site reported another one. It displays some system information.

All you need to do in order to try it out is :

  1. Go to Settings – System – System Information on your Vita, PSP or PS3. ( Yes it works on all three of them. )
  2. Press and hold for about 3-4 sec the following combo : L + R + D-pad Left + Square.
  3. After you release the button combo immediately press Start.
  4. You now see the complete information about your firmware.

It’s kind of useless but it’s quite funny, isn’t it.

Here is a video if you wasn’t able to do it right or just don’t have Vita yet :

PSV Recovery Menu Discovered

/* Posted January 1st, 2012 at 9:23pm [Comments: none]    */
/* Filed under PSP    */

<!–<!–<!–Share

After the Dolphin Debug Mode another rather interesting discovery was made. Sony has put in the Vita official Recovery Menu. It includes the following options :

  1. Restart System
    This option boots your system as normal without changing any settings or files.
  2. Rebuild Database
    This can be a usefull feature if you have lost files on your system for no apparent reason. Try using this feature to see if it can restore those files. This will also rewrite corrupted files within the database, potentially eliminating future issues. This feature should not erase any of your saved data or settings.
    Deletes messages, playlists, changes made on “Information” screens, trimming information for pictures in “Photo”, video thumbnails, video playback history and video resume information. This operation may take a long time depending on the type and number of data items.
  3. Format the memory card
    This will format the memorycard, effectively erasing all data currently on it.
  4. Restore PS Vita System
    This will restore your system to original including, formatting and erasing all of the data on internal flash and returning all system settings to default. This will not take your system back to a previous Firmware release. Use this option as a last resort, unless you have nothing on the console that you want or you want to erase everything on the console, do not use this option.
  5. System Update
    This can usefull if your system has become corrupted to the point you can not boot. This will allow the user to update their console with new firmware via PS3, PC, PS Vita memory card. ( Can’t be used for downgrade, however. )

How to run the console in Recovery Mode :

  1. Turn OFF your PS Vita (Press Power Button for 10 seconds)
  2. Now press and hold “R” + Power + PS (PlayStation Button)
  3. Wait…
  4. Now you’re in Recovery Menu (Mode)
