genplus sega genesis emulator

Genesis Plus emulates a Sega Genesis or MegaDrive console. It has been originally written by Charles MacDonald and ported to the Nintendo GameCube by the “Genesis Plus” Team.

It is an open source emulator and a community project which aims to bring you blast processing into the past. Using this “emulator” you will be able to enjoy all of your classic 16-bit games in all of their glory. Genesis Plus has been converted from a PC based platform to run on the GameCube’s proprietary PPC Gekko processor and features customized code to give you the best gaming experience possible.

This port is based on Genesis Plus 1.2 source code but it has been largely modified to improve overall compatibility, emulation accuracy as well as adding various peripheral supports and interface extra features. Read more »

Wii Twilight Hack Now Working with v3.3 Menu Update

/* Posted June 23rd, 2008 at 12:04am [Comments: 9] */
/* Filed under Mods, Nintendo, Wii */

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
The “Twilight Hack” is a way to safely run homebrew on an unmodded Nintendo Wii. Today the 0.1beta1 version came out with workaround support for the newest Wii System Menu update v3.3. A mere days after Nintendo patched the exploit in v3.2 with 3.3, this Twilight Princess homebrew launch hack is compatible with the latest Wii update. To run this hack, you need a Wii (duh), the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess that has been run at least once on your Wii, and an SD card. Read more »

Official Wii Update v3.3 Patches Twilight Hack

/* Posted June 16th, 2008 at 9:25pm [Comments: 2] */
/* Filed under Nintendo, Wii */

wii update v3.3

Nintendo released a new update for the Wii today, a version 3.3, that enhances the Mii Channel by adding an icon to allow moving of any Mii from the Plaza to the Parade by drag and drop. But that’s not the only thing v3.3 adds to the party. Gone is our beloved Twilight Hack, which was the source of all things homebrew in the Wii underground hacking world. That means you should only upgrade if you are absolutely sure there aren’t any homebrew that you’re going to miss. Personally, I’m going to wait on this one and see what happens.

Super Mario Kart Rendered in Javascript

javascript super mario kart snes

Weighing in at only 11kb, Jacob Seidelin, who is a self-professed “Javascript enthusiast,” was able to create a playable Javascript rendition of the classic Super Mario Kart for SNES. The game supports three characters, two tracks, basic AI, and even music. The frame rate worked out great for me with default settings on Firefox. Although there is basic boundary detection within the map but not between karts so don’t try to crash into the AI, it won’t work. There’s no timer and no finish, but it’s still an excellent concept and exemplary demo of mad Javascripting skills.

Is Nintendo’s DS a New Competitor the iPhone?

/* Posted June 6th, 2008 at 11:44am [Comments: 1] */
/* Filed under Apple, DS, Nintendo, iPhone */

nintendo ds iphone skin

Forbes magazine thinks that the Nintendo DS’s success as the handheld gaming console dominator could end this Monday when Apple introduces the new 3G iPhone at the WWDC. What makes them so confident? Well the same innovation that the DS brought to the handheld console scene and the Wii to home gaming, namely the touch screen interface and motion sensing capability, is combined into one tiny, neat, and portable little package with the iPhone. Besides that, the ease of getting games onto the iPhone wirelessly is a major draw for game developers.

These points make the iPhone a big winner as a gaming platform, with Sega having already created an impressive demo for Super Monkey Ball on the iPhone when the SDK was revealed. Even the greatly anticipated Spore game will be released on the iPhone concurrently with its PC, Mac, and DS releases. But I wouldn’t count the DS out immediately. Read more »

At least 100 WiiWare games are currently in development

/* Posted June 2nd, 2008 at 2:58pm [Comments: none] */
/* Filed under Nintendo, Video Games, Wii */

Nintendo Wii

Nintendo of America’s senior director of project development, Tom Prata, has revealed that there are at least 100 WiiWare games currently in development.

Citing WiiWare’s early success, Prata also explained that the developing games are the products of “working with developers… to bring the products to consumers in a timely manner”.

“Currently, there are about 100 games in development for WiiWare at various stages of completion,” Prata added.

WiiWare, which was launched in the US last month with six games, in Japan in April with nine games, and Europe on May 20th with eight games has seen early success, especially for the game LostWinds.

Get a Used Wii at GameStop for $249.99

/* Posted May 30th, 2008 at 10:12am [Comments: 1] */
/* Filed under Deals, Nintendo, Wii */

gamestop

Yes you read that right. A GameStop in Florida sold a returned Wii to a man at its full retail value at $249.99. When asked what justified selling a used product for a new price, the clerk explained, “The Wii is extremely hard to find, that’s why it’s $250 used.” What’s worse, the store managed to get the poor guy to buy the console at that price without even knowing if the warranty was still valid. Sure the Wii is hard to find but if you are patient and actively search (and are willing to line up a few hours before opening time on Sundays mornings) you should be able to procure a NEW unused Wii for $249.99. Either the patron didn’t realize this or else just didn’t care. Either way, we as consumers have to protest something like this when it happens by not buying. GameStop is a huge chain, it should be respectable. I can understand if a mom and pop shop did this for a quick buck, but why does GameStop need to do this? It only tarnishes their image. Stooping so low as to sell an old Wii for the price of a new one just goes to show you what a crummy place GameStop is.

Wii Fix Disc Unbricks Semi-Brick by Import Mario Kart, SSBB

/* Posted May 22nd, 2008 at 11:41am [Comments: 24] */
/* Filed under Mods, Nintendo, Video Games, Wii */

Mario Kart Wii

If you semi-bricked your Wii by performing the update on an imported Mario Kart disc (or similar game) that did not match your Wii’s region, and was wondering what you were going to do with your gimped Wii, you’re in luck. These ISOs are fix disc images that contain the latest update from Nintendo’s server for each Wii region, namely NTSU-J (Japan), NTSC-U (USA), and PAL (Europe). To restore your Wii back to its former glory: Read more »
