And might I add how seamless it is too! The power LED that used to be red is replaced with the Wii’s blue. The controller ports have been converted to GameCube controller ports as well. The cartridge cover opens up to reveal the Wii DVD drive. The power and reset buttons are also functional too though I’ve no clue what they are for. The amazing thing is, the Wii can be pulled out intact if ever necessary. Full details available at Wii Hacks.

Wii ISO Compressor WiiScrubber 1.30 Final Release

/* Posted August 5th, 2008 at 9:59am [Comments: none] */
/* Filed under How-To, Nintendo, Wii */

wiiscrubber 1.30

The latest and final release of WiiScrubber 1.30 was just released a few days ago by its developer Dack. Use WiiScrubber to prepare any Wii or GameCube ISO for compression to trim its disk space. By replacing unused portions of the full disk image with the same bit, it allows a compression tool to offer better compression and make the file smaller. Scrubbing an ISO is always useful if you’re sending or sharing an ISO with other people or for personal backup storage purposes as normally each ISO is 4.7GB. It also allows you to extract and replace files within an ISO image. WiiScrubber 1.30 comes with a list of new improvements: Read more »

The latest sales numbers are in, and Nintendo reported Wii sales of 171,851 units in Japan for the month of July. While the PSP continues to ride a wave of strong sales in Japan, the Wii-rival PS3 only sold 54,823 units last month, allowing the Nintendo Wii to outsell it by 3-to-1 according to game magazine Enterbrain. But all is not lost for Sony as the PSP remains the king of sales in Japan, hustling 256,765 units out the door compared to the Nintendo DS’s 217,639, certainly not too shabby in its own right and not very far behind. The PSP’s newfound usefulness as not just a gaming platform but also a handy media and mobile device as launched its sales over recent months as more and more gamers snap them up. Read more »

Nintendo goes on Raids, seizing close to 30,000 game copying products

/* Posted July 30th, 2008 at 1:36pm [Comments: none] */
/* Filed under DS, News, Nintendo */

“Nintendo takes a global approach to piracy and has pursued the illegal game copying devices in 11 countries this past year,” said the company.

“Nintendo has worked with enforcement officials in Belgium, China, Denmark, France, Hong Kong, Italy, Korea, Netherlands, Spain, UK, and the US, seizing close to 30,000 infringing game copying products, as well as taking actions against those distributors and manufacturers.”

One day after they announced a lawsuit against manufacturers and distributors of the R4 Revolution device, Nintendo has reported that they have already seized over 30,000 piracy devices which they believe infringe company copyrights.

The lawsuit, a joint venture with 54 other publishers hopes to get injunctions on the R4 and other devices that promote piracy on the Nintendo DS.

Nintendo Sues R4 Maker

/* Posted July 29th, 2008 at 2:11pm [Comments: none] */
/* Filed under DS, Mods, News, Nintendo, Video Games */

Nintendo, along with 54 other companies, have launched an extensive new lawsuit against the makers and distributors of the R4 Revolution device that allows for playback of ROMS on the Nintendo DS.

The popular R4 device is a flash cart and MicroSD adapter that allows user to install the custom Moonshell software on their DS and then load ROMS onto the MicroSD card and play them back on the handheld. The R4 bypasses all Nintendo firmwares and loads the Moonshell allowing the game playback as well as music, movies and even classic system emulators.

Although the R4 can run all sorts of homebrew, most use it exclusively to play pirated games, and Nintendo has noticed. The new lawsuit hopes to stop the manufacturing and distribution of the R4 and among the companies supporting Nintendo are SNK, Capcom, Square Enix, Tecmo and The Pokemon Company.

Nintendo says the R4 is “causing severe damage to our company and software makers, and this is something that we cannot possibly overlook.”

The suit was filed in the Tokyo District Court and is using the Unfair Competition Prevention Law as its legal basis.

people waiting in line for wii at tru

It’s no secret that the Nintendo Wii is winning the console sales war domestically and internationally with almost 30 million sold worldwide. Even today, a Wii can be very hard to come by as consumers continue to snap them up as soon as they hit store shelves. The worst part? Don’t expect it to get any better. According to Nintendo CEO Sotaru Iwata in a recent Forbes interview: Read more »

Logitech Wii Keyboard a Natural Companion

/* Posted July 18th, 2008 at 8:47am [Comments: 1] */
/* Filed under Hardware, Nintendo, Wii */

logitech wii keyboard

The “The Cordless Keyboard for Wii” as it’s officially called is also officially licensed by Nintendo and rightly so, with such sleek design that matches very well with Nintendo’s Wii white themed hardware. The keyboard isn’t just any regular keyboard as it’s got Nintendo specific functions for zooming in and out, forward and back for browsing, and quit and OK to make surfing the web on the Wii Internet Channel as natural as possible. The full-sized Logitech keyboard weighs only 1.5lb and is fully wireless, utilizing a 2.4GHz frequency USB receiver attached on the Wii’s end. Expect the keyboard to hit store shelves next month for $50.

Review: Nintendo DS Flash Carts

/* Posted July 9th, 2008 at 10:26pm [Comments: 2] */
/* Filed under DS, Gadgets, Hardware, Nintendo */

Like many people, I own a Nintendo DS.  If you’re tired of all the games available at your local electronic store, you can check out Homebrew games.  Homebrew are games created by people, not companies, and are available for you to play at no charge.  With Homebrew games, you’ll need the assistance of a flash Cart.

So here are three popular flash cart.

The R4

The R4 is exactly the same at the M3 Simply.  I highly recommend this cart over the M3 Real.  It’s easy to use and almost compatible with all the homebrew application out there.

The M3 Simply

This is my flash cart of choice.  It’s easy to use and fast to load programs.  The size of this cart and the R4 is a perfect match as a regular Nintendo DS game.  I would recommend this, but unfortunately, this is no longer manufactured.

The M3Real

I really don’t recommend the M3 Real because of loading issues.  Programs would often freeze and a restart is needed.  When it chooses to load your program, it takes forever, about twice as long as the R4.  This cart is also a little chubbier than the other two.  That means that the contacts on the cart don’t always meet the contacts on the DS.

If you want to purchase a flash cart and try out the Homebrew applications, just google them and you’ll find many online retailers.
