This problem occurs during the sync with your iPhone with misaligned backup images. What happens is iTunes displays its sync status and seems to progress until it displays “Syncing Contacts.” At this point iTunes is stuck and hangs forever and does not complete until you cancel the sync with your iPhone. The solution requires you to delete the old backup files but is a small price to pay to let the iPhone sync completely again. Read more »

If you followed our guide on upgrading to 2.0.2 and have also followed our 2.0.1 guide closely, you’ll notice there wasn’t any nice easy option to perform the YouTube activation fix with 2.0.2. That’s a limitation of QuickPwn which we used to upgrade to 2.0.2 firmware but fortunately not an unsolvable problem. If you encounter this error:
You must first connect to iTunes with an Internet connection to enable YouTube.
you can activate YouTube without going through iTunes on a jailbroken phone simply by SSH and FTP on your iPhone and “fixing” things up a bit. Read more »
We’ve long been fans of Tris when it started as a fun jailbroken app which brought a (slightly) new dimension to Tetris by relying on touch to move the pieces around. When the App Store launched shortly after the 3G iPhone debut, Tris was ported over to the new 2.0 firmware and available to download and play, that is until a few days ago. The Tetris police apparently caught wind of the app and ordered Apple to take it down. Noah Witherspoon, the college student creator of Tris, reports that he doesn’t have the “time, energy, or resources to fight this battle right now.” So until Noah becomes suddenly rich in time and money, say good bye to Tris.

Apple quietly released the 2.0.2 update to iPhone firmware about two weeks ago with only a mysterious “bug fixes” as the sole release note. I had been on 2.0.1 firmware for a few weeks with the only problem being App Store app ghost icons that started to appear during app updates. Thinking that 2.0.2 might be the solution to my problem, with QuickPwn frontend GUI now out and especially with such a great name - QuickPwn: it must be quick! - I decided to make the leap of faith. I’d also read that I’d be able to do an upgrade without a restore, allowing me to keep my current jailbroken apps. Let me just say the process was not really all that quick and I wasn’t able to do it without a restore (after all, you only get one try). So if you are having a lot of problems on 2.0.1 or just want to live on the edge and don’t mind losing all your settings by doing yet another restore, then follow this guide to upgrade your iPhone to the latest 2.0.2 firmware. Discussions have been raging at macrumours over the mysterious iPhone girl whose photo was “accidentally” shipped with a UK customer’s new iPhone 3G.
Not sure if this is or is not the ‘norm’ but I just received my brand new iPhone here in the UK and once it had been activated on iTunes I found that the home screen (the screen you can personalise with a photo) already had a photo set against it !!!!
It would appear that someone on the production line was having a bit of fun

Earlier this month, iPhone application developers discovered a hidden kill switch in the latest iPhone firmware (2.0+). The kill switch allows Apple to remotely delete or disable any unauthorized applications running on your iPhone, including any cracked Monkey Balls or Crash Bandicoots. The code contains a string called “unauthorizedApps” whose purpose is unknown. Apple acknowledged the existence of the hidden kill switch but claimed that it was not currently in use. Steve Jobs did not outwardly deny that it would never be used, merely saying that he hoped it would never have to happen. Whatever that means…
At any rate, jailbroken 2.0 iPhone users are in luck as BossPrefs version 2.12b contains a way to disable the kill switch to prevent any such thing from happening. Read more »

If full automatic sync’ing is to be utilized in iTunes, your iPhone or iPod can only be sync’ed with one music library on one computer. This isn’t really a big issue until you upgrade or migrate to another one. What about your painstakingly organized iTunes library? The process is actually pretty painless, especially if you’ve got an arrangement like mine. Read more »
