/* Filed under Apple, How-To, iPhone */

The moment every Windows user has been waiting for: QuickPwn 2.1 GUI has just been released for iPhone users wishing to upgrade their phones to the latest v2.1 firmware without having to jump through hoops and hurdles. We posted earlier ways to upgrade to 2.1 on Windows but this didn’t work for some people with 1600, 6, and 1400 errors or else left the iPhone boot screen blank. Now, however, all these problems should be resolved, we hope. Read more »

How to get your Sony Vaio laptop to view games Full Screen

We at Code Retard love StarCraft even though it was written 10 years ago. One problem that I have always had with my Sony TX was that it would reduce the screen when that game would load. I never bothered to figure out why that would happen until I got my Sony UX.

If your screen isn’t resizing, I found out it was a BIOS setting on the motherboard. Easy Fix:

1. Hit F2 when you see the VAIO load screen
2. Go into the “Advanced” Tab
3. Change “LCD Screen Expansion” to “YES”
4. Save out and exit, and all your problems will be solved.

This not only will solve the Star Craft issue, but any other program that tried to load a lower resolution than the max on your Sony LCD.

wait for it…….BOO YAH! Done.

How to Upgrade Pwned iPhone with 2.1 Custom Firmware IPSW (Windows)

/* Posted September 16th, 2008 at 12:27am [Comments: 35] */
/* Filed under Apple, How-To, Mods, iPhone */

The Pwnage Tool 2.1 and QuickPwn tools were released over the past weekend, allowing Mac users to create custom firmware IPSWs and pwn their iPhones. Unfortunately, without WinPwn or QuickPwn for Windows, Windows users did not have an option to upgrade to v2.1 firmware unless they were on already on AT&T and did not require unlocking or activation (that is they only needed to jailbreak on 2.1). But for the other half who are not with AT&T, it just wasn’t a viable option. We’re here to tell you that actually there is. Since the Pwnage 2.1 tool was released, some very generous people have made available custom 2.1 IPSW firmwares for 2G and 3G iPhones. What does this mean for Windows users with already pwned 2G iPhones? It means you can freely upgrade to 2.1 firmware without worrying about your iPhone getting locked again. 3G iPhone owners, this procedure is more geared towards 2G iPhones so you might want to check out our 3G 2.1 upgrade guide first.

The Pwnage Tool performs two main jobs: 1) create a custom firmware ipsw to allow jailbroken apps, and 2) pwn your iPhone to allow use with any GSM provider. Since the first job’s been done by Mac users providing pre-made custom 2.1 firmware, and the second job’s been done for you before, you’re actually closer than you think to enjoying firmware v2.1 iPhone bliss… Read more »

How to Jailbreak iPhone 2.1 Firmware IPSW with QuickPwn 1.2.0 (Windows)

/* Posted September 13th, 2008 at 11:23am [Comments: 44] */
/* Filed under Apple, How-To, Mods, iPhone */

Yesterday the latest iPhone firmware v2.1 was released and it didn’t take long for the iPhone Dev Team to come up with the new Pwnage 2.1 Tool to jailbreak the 2.5G and 3G iPhones. Unfortunately for us Windows users, there isn’t a solution out unless you can get a hold of a custom 2.1 ipsw file from a Mac user. The steps we are about to present work on Windows but only for AT&T-activated iPhones only, and won’t work if you want to unlock, it just works to jailbreak.

Update: If you’ve previously pwned your iPhone (that is, you’ve used Pwnage, QuickPwn, WinPwn or any tool like that at some point in your life), you can actually upgrade to 2.1 firmware quite easily and without any tools except iTunes 8. Heck, it’s a lot easier than this guide so you may want to check it out.

Update 2: QuickPwn 2.1 for Windows is finally out so we recommend following the revised 2.1 upgrade guide instead. Trust us it’s a lot easier. Read more »

How to Fix iTunes Contacts Syncing Forever

/* Posted September 5th, 2008 at 7:35am [Comments: none] */
/* Filed under Apple, How-To, iPhone */

This problem occurs during the sync with your iPhone with misaligned backup images. What happens is iTunes displays its sync status and seems to progress until it displays “Syncing Contacts.” At this point iTunes is stuck and hangs forever and does not complete until you cancel the sync with your iPhone. The solution requires you to delete the old backup files but is a small price to pay to let the iPhone sync completely again. Read more »

How to Fix YouTube Activation in iPhone 2.0.2 Firmware

/* Posted September 3rd, 2008 at 11:25pm [Comments: 19] */
/* Filed under Apple, How-To, Mods, iPhone */

If you followed our guide on upgrading to 2.0.2 and have also followed our 2.0.1 guide closely, you’ll notice there wasn’t any nice easy option to perform the YouTube activation fix with 2.0.2. That’s a limitation of QuickPwn which we used to upgrade to 2.0.2 firmware but fortunately not an unsolvable problem. If you encounter this error:

You must first connect to iTunes with an Internet connection to enable YouTube.

you can activate YouTube without going through iTunes on a jailbroken phone simply by SSH and FTP on your iPhone and “fixing” things up a bit. Read more »

Dell XPS 1530 Drivers - M1530 x64 - For Windows Vista x64

/* Posted September 3rd, 2008 at 10:36am [Comments: 2] */
/* Filed under Dell, Hardware, How-To */

I recently “upgrade” my Dell XPS 1530 to Windows Vista x64 and the drivers where a pain to find. Dell never offered a Vista x64 version of this laptop so if you go to their site, you have a hard time finding the drivers you need. I did however find a great source for the drivers. Below is the list that I found:

Description: Intel Mobile PM965 Express Chipset

How to Browse Privately in Google Chrome with Incognito

/* Posted September 3rd, 2008 at 10:03am [Comments: none] */
/* Filed under Google, Google Chrome, How-To */

Its pretty easy to get Incognito working, all you have to do is hit the little page icon on the top of the bar and then select “New incognito window”. The short cut keys for this are “Ctrl+Shift+N”

This feature seems to be very similar to the new feature Internet Explorer 8 has called “InPrivate browsing” (also called the porn button).
Happy porn surfing!

How to Upgrade iPhone to 2.0.2 Firmware with QuickPwn

/* Posted August 28th, 2008 at 8:14pm [Comments: 17] */
/* Filed under Apple, How-To, iPhone */

Apple quietly released the 2.0.2 update to iPhone firmware about two weeks ago with only a mysterious “bug fixes” as the sole release note. I had been on 2.0.1 firmware for a few weeks with the only problem being App Store app ghost icons that started to appear during app updates. Thinking that 2.0.2 might be the solution to my problem, with QuickPwn frontend GUI now out and especially with such a great name - QuickPwn: it must be quick! - I decided to make the leap of faith. I’d also read that I’d be able to do an upgrade without a restore, allowing me to keep my current jailbroken apps. Let me just say the process was not really all that quick and I wasn’t able to do it without a restore (after all, you only get one try). So if you are having a lot of problems on 2.0.1 or just want to live on the edge and don’t mind losing all your settings by doing yet another restore, then follow this guide to upgrade your iPhone to the latest 2.0.2 firmware. PSP Maps: Get Maps on your PSP

/* Posted August 28th, 2008 at 4:18pm [Comments: 2] */
/* Filed under Google, How-To, Mods, PSP, Sony */

PSP-Maps is a tool that allows you to browse Google Maps, Virtual Earth and Yahoo Maps with your PSP and its WiFi connection. You can move around the map, zoom in and out, cycle through the different available views, search for an address, load/save favorites, etc.

It includes a cache system so you can browse later the maps you have previously seen, even if you don’t have WiFi available. There is also a PC version if you don’t have WiFi at all, so you can build a cache on your computer and copy it to your PSP.

Technically, PSP-Maps connects directly to the servers to fetch the images, it does not use the provided APIs since there are usually in JavaScript and not convenient for a homebrew.
