Google Chrome 1.0.154.36 Is Out = No Longer in Beta

Unlike GMail, which has been in beta for years, Google Chrome has come out from beta in just a few months since its initial release. The latest revision 1.0.154.36 is a step up from 0.4.154.29 so update your Chrome browser now to start using the newest stable version.

Updating Google Chrome is easy, simply click on the blue wrench icon on the upper right hand corner of the browser and select “About Google Chrome.” In the about window that pops up, click on the “Update Now” button and wait a few minutes for the newest version to be installed. You will need to restart Chrome for the changes to take effect.

How to Install Adobe Flash Plugin for Google Chrome

The Adobe Flash player plugin is widely used all over the Internet, so it’s almost crucial that you install the Google Chrome Flash plugin if you wish to maximize your browser experience. If you’ve been prompted to install the Flash plugin but nothing happens, then you’ll need to manually install it yourself by downloading the Flash plugin from Adobe and playing a few tricks to install it into Google Chrome. No need to fear however because the installation procedure is pretty straightforward and you’ll have a Chrome Flash plugin enabled browser in no time.

Download the Flash player xpi for Windows.
Add a .zip extension to the file. It should now be: flashplayer-win.xpi.zip
Extract the contents and copy two files “flashplayer.xpt” and “NPSWF32.dll” (indicated in the screenshot below) over to C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\Plugins in XP or C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\Plugins in Vista (thank you Derek), making sure to change ‘user’ to your Windows login name. You can avoid having to unhide hidden files in Windows Explorer simply by copying and pasting the directory path provided above into the path bar.
Restart Google Chrome, then see if you can watch a YouTube video to see if it worked. Or just come back to this page.

Android Developer Challenge winners, Android Market is up and Accessories Store goes live

It’s been busy in the world of Android. In fact, so much has happened in the past week, we just had give you a little recap. Plus, there’s a few new things worth mentioning all you Android diehards are sure to appreciate. For starters, the winners of the Android Developer Challenge I were announced last week. Ten teams won $275,000 each and ten won $100,000 each for their interesting and useful application submissions. Just a few apps worth mentioning are cab4me, which helps you find a cab wherever you are GoCart, which allows you to scan product barcodes and compare product prices at local stores. There are many more, so be sure to check out the winners for yourself.

Google Chrome Incognito Mode Allows Simultaneous Logins

We mentioned earlier that one of Google Chrome’s nifty features is its incognito mode which basically wipes all traces of web browsing activity after closing the incognito session. As a by-product, you can actually use incognito mode to log in simultaneously to two separate accounts like Gmail for instance if you are logged in on the regular browsing mode as well. Since the cookies between regular and incognito browsing modes are maintained separately, you will be able to be logged in under two different accounts to pretty much any website you have an account on. Log in once normally, log in again with a different account but going incognito. Imagine the endless possibilities, like bidding against yourself on eBay or chatting with yourself on Google Talk! Fun!

Beta Google Chrome and My Windows 2003 Machine don’t play nice

Yeah, I read the download box when I installed it, said something to the nature of (only for Windows XP and Vista machines), but heck I installed it anyways – isn’t that what we all do? While most of Chrome works when I go and close the app, I get the nice error message above. Its still a beta app so I am sure Google is working on it? Also, I am not sure if it is limited to my machine or if its a more wide spread issue. If anyone else has gotten this message, please chime in. Good times!

How to Browse Privately in Google Chrome with Incognito

Its pretty easy to get Incognito working, all you have to do is hit the little page icon on the top of the bar and then select “New incognito window”. The short cut keys for this are “Ctrl+Shift+N”

This feature seems to be very similar to the new feature Internet Explorer 8 has called “InPrivate browsing” (also called the porn button).
