George Bush CSS
Using pure CSS to arrange hundreds of differently sized and colored characters, Roman Cortes has painstakingly drawn the current US President George Bush. It takes an artist’s eye and a CSS master to accomplish something like this, so props to Roman. It’s wonderful to see it being rendered like vector art when the page loads. To truly test if it’s really comprised of a bunch of characters, just highlight the picture on Roman’s page and you should see some familiar characters being highlighted. He’s also done a simpler Homer Simpson. Talk about taking ASCII art to another level.

ASCII Star Wars 1

These guys totally redid about half of Star Wars Episode IV in ASCII (they call it “asciimation”), complete with opening credits and dialog. There’s no sound or color or anything, but what would you expect from a painstakingly lovingly done ASCII movie? To watch, just head on over to their website. If you want to be super cool and nerdy, use your favorite telnet program and type in the command below to watch the telnet-ified version:

iPhone Albums View

I’ve been playing with my new toy for the past day and I’ve been getting my MP3 library in shape for transfer to my iPhone. My initial try was simply to import my existing library to iTunes and then sync it to my iPhone. It worked, no hitches. However, I was getting the default grey album cover on all but one song. What was going on with this total uncoolness? Turns out, you can embed a JPEG image within the ID3 tags of an MP3.

Optimus Maximus for your Laptop

Famed Russian art studio art lebedev, known for their OLED keyboard shipping today for a cool grand, might want to consider venturing out into the laptop world. Wouldn’t it be great to be able to customize each key on your laptop exactly how you want it? Laptop real estate is especially small, and I find that buttons can vary wildly from each laptop maker.

ASCGEN screenshot

ASCGEN is a freeware Windows tool that lets you “convert images into high quality ASCII art - text that accurately represents the original image. The first program of its kind to support variable width fonts, and real-time output adjustment.” ASCII, in case you don’t know, stands for American Standard Code for Information Interchange and is a standard character-coding scheme used by computers to display letters, digits and special characters like punctuation. The great thing about this program, besides the fact that it’s open source and totally free, is the ability to tweak the lightness and other settings of the image in real time. With this awesome program you can make your own ASCII art stick it to __logo@rtiste__ from ]]5up3r-leet-hax0r[[ group (if you didn’t get that, you’ve never read warez nfos so just pretend I said stick it to the man).
