Someone Actually Won the Bethesda “Name Your Kid” Contest

A few weeks ago, Bethesda made an interesting offer to fans – name your child Dovahkiin, which apparently means dragonborn in Skyrim’s pretend language, and the company will give you every game they make, for the rest of your life, completely free. It sound’s a like a devil’s bargain, but I suppose there are worse names in the world. Apple comes to mind.

Eric and Megan Kellermeyer named their kid Dovahkiin Tom Kellermyer, and since I have no idea how to pronounce “Dovahkiin” I can’t tell if the name has a ring to it or not.
The baby was born on the same day of Skyrim’s release (11/11/11) and the Kellermeyers contacted Bethesda, who was more than happy to make good on their promise. Happy, and probably a little surprised. The offer they made seemed almost like a joke, so it’s nice to see that they’re following through on it.
In the meantime, the young Dovahkiin can look forward to a lifetime of teachers and professors being able to make heads or tails of his name at roll call. Congratulations to the Kellermeyers!
And Dovahkiin, if you’re reading this twenty years from now, we’re all really sorry about this.
