It's supposed to be twice as fast as 3G, but I think that's disputable. It has an internal compass which comes in handy if you ever get lost in the middle of nowhere. I think the battery life lasts longer. I can go for several days without a charge, while my family members needs to recharge their 3G almost every night. The camera is also better. It's 3 MP instead of .3 MP on the original and 3S. It also has auto focus, something that the previous generation didn't have. The 3GS is better than the 3G.
