iPhone 3.0 Free App Re-Download No Longer Allowed

Currently the upcoming iPhone 3.0 OS firmware is set to be released some time after WDC in June. However, early beta versions indicate a major change regarding App Store app updates. Today, if you paid for an app, you can continue to freely download it as many times as you wish on multiple computers with the same iTunes account. Not so in iPhone 3.0: apps that you’ve previously paid for have to be paid for again when it goes through another download. This means free app re-downloads are no longer allowed. It looks to be a step to combat iTunes account sharing between multiple people using the same account on different computers. No word on whether staying on 2.2.1 firmware will still allow you to freely re-download an app you’ve already paid for.
