Wii Remote, Nunchuk, Balance Board, and iPhone Control R/C Car

The fellows at Hardcode were able to hack not just a Nintendo Wii remote, but the Wii nunchuk and Wii Fit balance board and Apple iPhone to control a remote control RC car with the aid of a laptop and some specialized hardware. The Wii remote drives the car much like driving is done in Mario Kart. Actually, the same can be said of the nunchuk attachment as well, though it looks much easier to control. The balance board looks like it’s the hardest thing to use to guide an RC car. Leaning forward propels the car forward, leaning back propels it backwards, and of course leaning to the left or right turns the car’s wheels but of course the success of this mechanism largely depends on the user’s good balance. Perhaps the most interesting thing in the video may very well be the demo of the world’s first nose-controlled RC… with an iPhone touchscreen interface. The hacks are made possible via bluetooth on the controllers and a special transmitter with RC antenna that hooks up to a Macbook laptop.
