Nintendo DSi Hacked by First Flash Cart

It’s over now… for Nintendo that is. The newest Nintendo handheld, the DSi which is currently only available in Japan, has finally been hacked with a flash cart. This means that like its predecessor, the DSi will also have a wonderful host of homebrewing and hacking options once other DSi hackers catch on. We reported previously that the DSi had been hacked in just days after its release, but no solution was available that employed the flash cart. The DSi flash cartridge was developed by Acekard, and will be dubbed the "Acekard 2i."

The video above shows off a touch-screen navigable file system, Castlevania ROM gameplay, something that resembles Moonshell, and all the other great capabilities you’ve come to expect on DS homebrew like videos and music. The other great thing is you can buy the Acekard 2i now, if you’re planning on upgrading to the DSi when it gets released in the States, and still be able to use it on your existing DS since it’s fully backwards compatible. The Acekard 2i takes a microSDHC card just like the current solutions for the DS, but there is no mention of being able to access the DSi’s SD card slot for more memory expansion.

I’d personally actually wait a bit for more solutions to pop up, especially since the SD card access hasn’t been hacked yet. For a full list of features, visit Acekard’s website. Another video showing the Acekard in action appears below:
