[ # ] Nintendo DS Sets August Sales Record with Half Million Sold

NPD data is in for all game consoles on the market and guess what? The Nintendo DS enjoyed the best August sales of any console ever sold in what is traditionally a slow sales month. With a tabulated 518,300 units sold last month, it completely obliterates the previous record held by the Sony PS2 which in 2002 sold 454,300 in August. If not for the DS’s excellent sales performance this past month, the Nintendo Wii would actually have broken the old PS2 record because it sold at an admiral pace of 453,000 units in August too. With two consoles simultaneously breaking an old record in the same month, Nintendo is swimming in success with two grand slam consoles. Half a million seems hardly any reason to celebrate compared to some months when Nintendo has shipped 1 to 1.5 million units, but for a slow month like August they certainly won’t complain. They’ve hardly even bothered to integrate the two consoles so imagine would kind of numbers they could pull if they actually released (interesting) games to take advantage of both consoles.
