10 Reasons Why iPhone Sucks Compared to the T-Mobile Dash (HTC Excalibur)

Sure we love the iPhone here at Code Retard and you could probably call it an obsession without much exaggeration. But the iPhone isn’t a perfect little angel either. Here are 10 reasons why the T-Mobile Dash kicks the iPhone’s butt.
1. The Dash has instant messenger.
The iPhone may have a neat Internet browser, but when it comes to instant messaging, the iPhone blows. Even if you jailbreak the iPhone and try to run Fring, you will notice that your iPhone battery drains at an increased speed, and even overheats sometimes, not to mention the problems with actually using it to chat. Fring constantly drops your connections and doesn’t always notify you when someone messages.
2. Storage and upgrading
The iPhone is limited to built-in storage and can’t be upgraded easily. The HTC Dash comes with a micro SD slot where you can just swap in and out SD cards at your convenience.
3. File system: The Lock Down
The iPhone is a pain in the ass if you want to get to the file system. If you don’t jailbreak your phone, there basically isn’t a file system. If you do jailbreak your phone, then you have to install SSH,
and FTP into the dumb thing. How lame is that? It’s my freaking phone, why can’t I just connect it to the USB and use it like a hard drive???? Dash is just plug and play, drag and drop, no problems here.
4. Battery Life / Replacement
Most iPhones I have seen only last a day. I know that newer ones last about 2 days now but half of the iPhone owners out there constantly are charging their iPhones to just use it. Another thing is that when the iPhone battery completely dies, there is no real easy way of replacing it without sending it off to Apple. The Dash on the other hand lasts 2 to 3 days and battery replacement is simple.
5. Missing that YouTube Moment.
Wish you had a video camera right when you buddy does something really stupid? If you have an iPhone, you are out of luck. I know that there is an installer app that gives you 5 seconds of recording time, but that’s still pretty lame. Right out of the box, the Dash is ready to go!
6. Standard USB connection.
Those bastards at Apple want you to buy Apple everything, including the “Special” iPod connectors. If you aren’t a big Apple fan, you may not have a lot of these wires lying around, which may be a problem
when you need to charge your phone. With the Dash, it uses a standard USB to mini USB connector (the same you use for many external hard drives). The cord is not only normally easier to find, it’s a lot
cheaper from the stores.
7. Emails and Typing.
Reading and typing out emails on the iPhone are kind of a pain without a full touch keyboard. I have heard many people complain about the on-screen keys and get frustrated with typing. Dash’s touch keyboard solves those problems.
8. Speaker Phone
I’ll say it, iPhone’s speaker phone SUCKS! I can hardly hear things sometimes while driving. The speaker location is in a retarded position and sometimes my finger covers it up. With the Dash, the speaker is loud and clear.
9. Flash!
Do I really need to go into this? Dash = Flash, iPhone != Flash.
10. Mobile Office
The Dash gives you Mobile Ooffice so that you can create word documents on the fly, unlike iPhone’s lame notepad. Dash also comes with Excel Mobile and PowerPoint Mobile.
And for the bonus reason, iPhone doesnt do media in their text messages, pretty lame to leave out such a simple feature. There you have it folks, looks like Microsoft beats Apple yet again!

Although there are things the iPhone can improve on, I can’t believe the Dash is as good as you make it out to be.
the Dash without a ROM upgrade is pretty weak, but once you add a custom ROM, its pretty slick

the dash sucks the big one!!!! I had one for about a month and took it back all it does is freezzzzzzzz all the time and will not close apps.
You need to change the rom, the hardware itself is solid, its the crap that t-mobile loads that make it crash
Chris it freezes cuz u needa close programs from the task manager. If u have too much shit open of course it’ll freeze. Timmy I didn’t know u could hack ur Dash imma do that right now lol
I love my Dash! You do need to close programs, or it will freeze up. You can just shut it off and back on once in a while to accomplish that. I like the speaker on my Dash a lot. Not wild about the headset that comes with it, but that’s easily replaced. And T-Mobile’s customer service people are so helpful if you can’t figure out how to do something you want to do.
I just got an iphone unlocked for t-mobile coming from a Dash and I have to disagree with some of the list. I mean it has valid points too such as the keyboard but I had a lot of problems with the Dash. Battery completely died quick so I had 2 get a new one and now that one is starting to go quick, it kept having system restarts on it’s own til i eventaully had to hard reset the whole unit. and the first point bout text messaging.. it’s nice but Dash charges you for a text message and it isn’t real time when iphone’s AIM goes thru the internet. Their both good phones but iphone got it far as web browsing (hands down, who can disagree? lol), social networking, games, and speed. I loved the Dash’s e-mail though, but iphone is on the same level with that. I might be selling my Dash today getting ready for t-mobile g1 though.
Except Points 8 and 9…. all the other things u wrote are crap… like u havent used an iPhone ever… I’m using it since a year…
No other phone can beat it.. all others seem crap in front of the iPhone.
Hey guyz Im 15 years Old and im getting a dash on friday the 11/7/08 and i am getting a sim with it reply to tell me wat to do with it as i get ok Thx. :)
I think BOTH phones suck. I hate apple and their business tactics with such a passion that I refuse to walk into their stores. But I admit that I did get an I phone (from the at&t store) so I can actually tell the world the pros and cons about it.
First off, the file system on apple products and how music / video and photos are stored and how they force itunes down your throat to manage it all is a laughing joke! To have a program rename your files randomly, then create a database of what the renamed files actually are is one more point of failure and it does fail all of the time.
Randomly, the iphone crashes and refuses to synch with itunes at least once a week for me which requires restoring the phone to factory defaults and you have to relaod your photos, songs, videos, applications…. What a pain! I don’t know what is worse, the actual ipod/iphone products, or the itunes software that you are forced to use.
There are some things about the iphone that are pretty slick though like the touch screen… but unfortunately for me, the cons outweigh the pros with leaps and bounds. It has weak wifi signal/range, it’s hard to peck at the keys on the screen without spelling words wrong, battery life absolutely unacceptable (maybe 1 day); with all of the features that they threw into this phone, it should have been designed to run off of depleted uranium pellets that never need recharging ever! I can fully charge this phone, unplug it at night and let it sit on stand by, and by morning 20% of the battery is gone FROM DOING NOTHING!!! And my iphone is only 2 weeks old.
I have yet to find a phone that is worthy of being called a true smart phone.
Here’s my idea of a good phone:
The apple i-phone has a great touch feature. Keep that in the phone.
The black berry and similar phones have a great file structure and the ability to add more memory. Keep that too.
Phones like the LG F9200 have a slide out keyboard that makes typing really easy. Keep that too.
Add a 4000 mAh battery to make the phone last at least 4 days, and you’ve got yourself a true SMARTPHONE.
I know, my phone design would be about twice as thick as an iphone, but who cares! Look how thick a blackberry is! I’d take a thicker iphone if the battery lasted longer.
Apple, if you want a good phone, hire me ( bulkbox@baileycharter.org ) and I’ll design one for you that will put all other cell phone manufactures out of business. All I ask is a free phone for the rest of my life with free unlimited everything…. lol
Too bad people do not know to charge their battery The Dash battery has no issues what so ever and in fact just the concept of battery replacement on the iphone makes it bullshit to begin with. Just like their peice of shit IPOD! Now that is one peice of shit hardware. The Dash will last days upon use with or without going into average use times.
Can we say theft issue? half the people I know either had third iphone stolen from them or they misplaced it because its not so fun having that heavy hunk of shit in your pocket not to mention weighing down your pants.
SPEAKERPHONE. on the iphone I thought that noise was coming from the earpeice, lol. ever play music on the Dash? baby its louder then the speaker on an elevator ride. if any of these apple macintosh lovers take their head out of their ass they would understand compatibility versus proprietorship. fuck your itunes and your leopard based o.s. all with your phones and mp3 players. the junk ipod should be banned from sales in the u.s. if you ask me.
must I even mention the durability issues iphone has. I face planted my Dash without some ugly case protector that does not do shit and it does not crack or stop working. in fact I dare you to drop your iphone on the ground and you hit a corner its all over iwith. the hard drive they place inside all their wonderful fingering devices are fucking garbage. so you can zoom into your browser window with your fingers, thats what computers are for.
i know a bunch of iphone owners and they are all pussies. Where do you put that thing when your not using it? I asked and they told me up their ass. I can slide my Dash into my small jean pocket and its not even there. the only sizable positive is if you carry it in your front pocket maybe it will stop a bullet.
do they even have infrared capabilities?
you can not use your iphone for any data transfer let alone access an iphone address. where i can use my tmobile data as a network connection on my laptop with out paying extra and check my emails using the towers. Im not even going to talk about ATTENTION network and your dropped calls across the us. you folks love your apple brand so much its no wonder why you guys are all FRUITS.
BY THE WAY I typed this on my dash driving across WASHINGTON interstate 90 doing / 65mph.
TMOBILE RULES THE WIRELESS INDUSTRY AND THEY WILL PREVAIL. IF ATTENTION DID NOT OWN LAND LINES THEY WOULD NOT EXIST.
TMOBILE RUNS SOLELY OFF THEIR WIRELESS MARKET AND THEY’RE PRODUCTS ARE NOT STEMMED FROM LOCKING IN CONTRACTS THROUGH HARDWARE PROVIDERS. YOU KNOW YOU WERE RIPPED OFF THE MINUTE THE FIRST ISSUE CAME UP WITH YOUR IPHONE, IPOD WHATEVER.
LOL THEY MADE OFFICE FOR MACINTOSH BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO PROGRAMMING SKILLS
MICROSOFT FOREVER BITCHES!!!
Ive had my dash for 6+ months. and it still works great, ive upgraded it to wm 6 and it works wonderfully, if you close the apps regularly you dont have to worry about it freezing. Ive never had to hard reset my dash. I basically use mine as an mp3 phone, ive a 2 gb sd card with a few hundred songs. No need for an ipod :] i just hope they come out with a Dash 2
i hate the t-mobile dash with all of my heart. it crashed daily since i got it a year ago, and is now permanently crashed. i got lost in NY and was not able to see a map on google, mapquest, yahoo- anywhere. so i got rid of the internet. the battery life sucks, there is pretty much no internal memory, and when its not crashing, it just freezes for 10 minutes and gives the “spinning ball of death”. this phone sucks- buy it if you don’t like your hair as you will be pulling it out. i am going to cough up the $200 to cancel my tmobile account to get an iphone so i can actually use the internet (no way am i getting the google phone as it is manufactured by the same idiots who made this trainwreck).
