t-mobile dash vs iphone

Sure we love the iPhone here at Code Retard and you could probably call it an obsession without much exaggeration. But the iPhone isn’t a perfect little angel either. Here are 10 reasons why the T-Mobile Dash kicks the iPhone’s butt.

1. The Dash has instant messenger.
The iPhone may have a neat Internet browser, but when it comes to instant messaging, the iPhone blows. Even if you jailbreak the iPhone and try to run Fring, you will notice that your iPhone battery drains at an increased speed, and even overheats sometimes, not to mention the problems with actually using it to chat. Fring constantly drops your connections and doesn’t always notify you when someone messages.

2. Storage and upgrading
The iPhone is limited to built-in storage and can’t be upgraded easily. The HTC Dash comes with a micro SD slot where you can just swap in and out SD cards at your convenience.

3. File system: The Lock Down
The iPhone is a pain in the ass if you want to get to the file system. If you don’t jailbreak your phone, there basically isn’t a file system. If you do jailbreak your phone, then you have to install SSH,
and FTP into the dumb thing. How lame is that? It’s my freaking phone, why can’t I just connect it to the USB and use it like a hard drive???? Dash is just plug and play, drag and drop, no problems here.

4. Battery Life / Replacement
Most iPhones I have seen only last a day. I know that newer ones last about 2 days now but half of the iPhone owners out there constantly are charging their iPhones to just use it. Another thing is that when the iPhone battery completely dies, there is no real easy way of replacing it without sending it off to Apple. The Dash on the other hand lasts 2 to 3 days and battery replacement is simple.

5. Missing that YouTube Moment.
Wish you had a video camera right when you buddy does something really stupid? If you have an iPhone, you are out of luck. I know that there is an installer app that gives you 5 seconds of recording time, but that’s still pretty lame. Right out of the box, the Dash is ready to go!

6. Standard USB connection.
Those bastards at Apple want you to buy Apple everything, including the “Special” iPod connectors. If you aren’t a big Apple fan, you may not have a lot of these wires lying around, which may be a problem
when you need to charge your phone. With the Dash, it uses a standard USB to mini USB connector (the same you use for many external hard drives). The cord is not only normally easier to find, it’s a lot
cheaper from the stores.

7. Emails and Typing.
Reading and typing out emails on the iPhone are kind of a pain without a full touch keyboard. I have heard many people complain about the on-screen keys and get frustrated with typing. Dash’s touch keyboard solves those problems.

8. Speaker Phone
I’ll say it, iPhone’s speaker phone SUCKS! I can hardly hear things sometimes while driving. The speaker location is in a retarded position and sometimes my finger covers it up. With the Dash, the speaker is loud and clear.

9. Flash!
Do I really need to go into this? Dash = Flash, iPhone != Flash.

10. Mobile Office
The Dash gives you Mobile Ooffice so that you can create word documents on the fly, unlike iPhone’s lame notepad. Dash also comes with Excel Mobile and PowerPoint Mobile.

And for the bonus reason, iPhone doesnt do media in their text messages, pretty lame to leave out such a simple feature. There you have it folks, looks like Microsoft beats Apple yet again!

Although there are things the iPhone can improve on, I can’t believe the Dash is as good as you make it out to be.

the Dash without a ROM upgrade is pretty weak, but once you add a custom ROM, its pretty slick

You need to change the rom, the hardware itself is solid, its the crap that t-mobile loads that make it crash

I love my Dash! You do need to close programs, or it will freeze up. You can just shut it off and back on once in a while to accomplish that. I like the speaker on my Dash a lot. Not wild about the headset that comes with it, but that’s easily replaced. And T-Mobile’s customer service people are so helpful if you can’t figure out how to do something you want to do.

I just got an iphone unlocked for t-mobile coming from a Dash and I have to disagree with some of the list. I mean it has valid points too such as the keyboard but I had a lot of problems with the Dash. Battery completely died quick so I had 2 get a new one and now that one is starting to go quick, it kept having system restarts on it’s own til i eventaully had to hard reset the whole unit. and the first point bout text messaging.. it’s nice but Dash charges you for a text message and it isn’t real time when iphone’s AIM goes thru the internet. Their both good phones but iphone got it far as web browsing (hands down, who can disagree? lol), social networking, games, and speed. I loved the Dash’s e-mail though, but iphone is on the same level with that. I might be selling my Dash today getting ready for t-mobile g1 though.
