outlook 2007 isntant search

Just got Office 2007 Professional installed today and when I opened my Outlook, I found this annoying yellow bar prompting me to install an external component off Microsoft’s website for the Instant Search feature. Such an intriguingly sounding feature would have been great had I not learned that it was an invasive desktop search tool. For the same reasons I’ve always avoided installing Google’s desktop search app, namely the file indexing load for search speedup, so I wanted to get rid of that annoying instant search prompt on Outlook. It took me quite a bit of time to locate the correct Outlook setting to remove it so hopefully this helps a few people out there.

Simply go to Tools -> Options -> Other tab -> Advanced Options to bring up this prompt:
outlook 2007 isntant search

Then uncheck the option boxed in red.

Or you could have just searched on “instant search” in the Outlook help menu and found the setting in less than 15 seconds. At least that’s what I did.
