Sony is rolling out the newest update for the PS3 tomorrow, firmware version 2.40, which will support in-game XMB (Xross Media Bar) and a gaming accomplishment system like Microsoft’s Xbox Achievements called Trophies. Currently, only a few games will be supporting Trophies, including:
- Super Stardust HD
- BUZZ! Quiz TV
- LittleBigPlanet
- MotorStorm Pacific Rift
- NBA 09 - PS3
- PAIN
- PixelJunk Eden
- Resistance 2
- SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation
- Warhawk
Check out this video for more information on the Trophies system and how it will work:
Some other new features are the expansion of the friend list on PlayStation Network to 100 friends and a direct-to-Google search similar to the feature recently added in the PSP’s last update. Check back at this link a little bit later after the v2.40 firmware officially rolls out to see the complete list of updates.
To Sony: enough with the minor stuff no one really cares about, when are you going to support PS2 backwards compatibility on the 40GB PS3?
