Earlier we reported that your refurbished iPhone could contain the previous owner’s data due to Apple’s not very stringent data wiping process. To address precisely that issue, the next revision firmware v2.0 will be adding a secure erase function to genuinely wipe off all your personal data, in addition to some other new and improved features.
The entire process takes about an hour which is a small price to pay for the added security. The current iPhone firmware does not have this feature and has forced users to resort to their own methods to wipe their data, though most approaches don’t do anything useful except suck up battery life. This new feature will make securely erasing data much more accessible for general masses as well as fix Apple’s lax wiping methods. The new firmware can’t come soon enough.
