The guys on Wall Street think they know it all when it comes to stocks and portfolios. But did they know that if they had invested in Chrono Trigger in 1995 and sold it today unopened, they would have made a rate of return of 26% annually?! If you know of any investment that gives you 26% return annually, then you would be crazy not to consider it. Even Apple and Microsoft stock have not yielded this much return. If you bought Guitar Hero III for your Wii only to find out that the game played in mono sound and had to ship the game back to Activision for a replacement, well, get ready for some right to all the wrongs in the world. Activision quietly announced that it would be sending all Wii gamers who bought Guitar Hero III a free guitar faceplate. No details yet on when they will ship or if you can pick out what you want.

Speed Up Windows Shut Down

Windows XP Shutdown

Sometimes you try to turn off Windows and you leave the computer to do it’s thing only to find that 5 minutes later, the computer is still on and Windows is still trying to shut down. Try out a few of these registry hacks to see if you can cut down your shut down times. To open the registry editor, type “regedit” in the Start menu’s “Run…”

Set HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Control Panel/desktop/WaitToKillAppTimeout to 1000 (1 sec).
Set HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Control Panel/desktop/HungAppTimeout to 2000 (2 secs).
Set HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Control Panel/Desktop/AutoEndTasks to 1 (enable).
Set HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/WaitToKillServiceTimeout to 1000 (1 sec).

If some of these keys don’t appear in the registry, you could always add them. Also remember to back up your registry before you go messing around in there.

I’ve been playing with my new toy for the past day and I’ve been getting my MP3 library in shape for transfer to my iPhone. My initial try was simply to import my existing library to iTunes and then sync it to my iPhone. It worked, no hitches. However, I was getting the default grey album cover on all but one song. There’s an article on The Onion about a 26 year old whose memories are mostly related to his video game experiences from his youth. Some of his memories included beating his friend in Tecmo Bowl, some of the great slams he’s made in NBA Jam, and, of course, the good ole up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, Select, Start. Some doctors tested him and he could recall a beatdown he gave in Super Smash Brothers faster than he could remember holding his infant sister for the first time.
