[ # ] Investment 101: Chrono Trigger Bests Apple, Microsoft
/* Posted March 27th, 2008 at 8:47am *//* Filed under Apple, Microsoft, News, Video Games */

The guys on Wall Street think they know it all when it comes to stocks and portfolios. But did they know that if they had invested in Chrono Trigger in 1995 and sold it today unopened, they would have made a rate of return of 26% annually?! If you know of any investment that gives you 26% return annually, then you would be crazy not to consider it. Even Apple and Microsoft stock have not yielded this much return. So much for Wall Street eh? The figure is based on the fact that an unopened copy of Chrono Trigger recently sold for $1217 on eBay. The per year return figures to be 25.7% while Apple stock, even accounting for splits, gave a 22% return. Microsoft yielded a 13.6%, also decent but not as good as investing in an unopened game.
Of course I’m not saying go sell all your stocks and buy 1000 unopened copies of Super Smash Bros Brawl as these things are totally unpredictable. Heck I’m wondering if it would even go for $1217 again on eBay. Besides games, there are lots of other things to invest your money on besides stocks, like collectibles or cards. So don’t be hating if you catch wind of some of us at Code Retard doing exactly that. We got justification now.

Damn. I remember seeing Chrono Trigger in the clearance bin at Wal-mart for like $20 back in the day.
Plus I’m going to assume that the rate of return is actually higher on the game because I don’t think any retailer actually sold it for $70

A shame you didn’t pick a few of those up. Anyone got any unopened “investments” that would give a similar rate of return if sold today?
