The Asus Eee PC is all the rage at the moment. It’s an ultra-mobile PC (UMPC) designed for kids but became an instant hit among geeks. It’s very lightweight, small, and looks like a toy. It’s good to go right out of the box. It has a Linux based operating system with easy navigation. However, if you are an advance Linux user, you can enable desktop mode for more functionality.
Here are some specs.
Model: Asus Eee PC 701 4G
900 Mhz Intel Celeron CPU
512 MB DDR2
4GB Solid State Hard Drive (SSD)
0.3 Megapixel Webcam
802.11 b/g Wireless
10/100 Ethernet
3 USB Ports
VGA Out
Linux Xandros OS
Pretty wimpy right? But the tiny-eee pc is becoming the “gold standard” for UMPC. Asus took the laptop industry by storm with this little guy – over 300,000 units sold. It is the best selling UMPC by far. Why you ask? Because it’s only $400. You can pick up the entry model for only $300. Many computer makers, such as HP, are trying to produce their very own UMPC to compete with the Eee PC.
Asus recently announced a new version of the Eee PC with a bigger hard drive and a bigger 9 inch screen. Of course, the price will be bigger as well.

You can also expand memory through the SD port, correct? Do you know if it supports SDHC (high capacity) or just plain SD?
The eee pc supports both SD and SDHC. I have an 8 GB SDHC in there for extra room. There’s no lag when playing standard video from the SDHC card. High definition video may present a problem.
